13 Watchers105 Deviations

So before we begin, you can read my original pitch here.  Make sure you open in a separate window because it is pretty long and you might forget to come back here. lol  So here is an update.  I turned in Act One for my script.  Got an "A" and positive feedback but it wasn't without notes and criticisms either.  These things I have taken into account and also I have thought of additional ideals for the project.

The Invisible World: Genesis

Discover the world of Isabelle prior to and after her passing.  How did she discover her potential?  What about her family and loved ones?  How have they moved on?  How have they become involved?  How did they end up where they are now?  All these questions will be answered.

Concept

So after some feedback from classmates and fellow aspiring writers, I realized it would be a good idea to come up with something to further showcase the characters' background.  The script I'm working on now is more of a pitch movie.  Again, something I'm doing due to feedback from my professor.  I realized that to do a show, you have to get noticed.  So I got to work on writing the script for a pitch movie, sorta similar to the likes of Mortal Kombat: Rebirth among other movies and short films you'll find on youtube.  Admittedly the challenge was balancing all the characters and still making sure that Isabelle remains the hero.  Also my approach was pretty much in the middle.  By that I mean the characters had their journeys up to the point in my plot.  Understandably people will be confused and a fellow student gave me an idea to do an anthology series that gives the characters origins, how they met, and even key moments tied to the "movie."  Don't worry, I'll finish the script first and then get to work on Genesis, but thought you should know.  Overall, what I'm going for is to present a "blue print" of my vision if that makes sense.  So if I can get it down, some things won't happen the same, maybe they happen later, or maybe something else entirely happens.  Hell maybe I will keep it all intact.  I don't know.  Never done this before and this is something really ambitious on my part.  I can only hope I succeed somehow.

The Belletrist

Nathaniel Hawthorne.  Edgar Allan Poe.  Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Henry David Thoreau.  Together they form the Belletrist, the men of letters.  All men are intellectuals, yet discovered that which is invisible to the rest of the world.  Discover the secret brotherhood and the lives they lived as they make new discovers, face difficult challenges, and preserve a legacy that would remain for decades.

Concept

For this one, I decided this would definitely be a web series prequel to Hawthorne and Brown, with Nathaniel being the POV character, having left notes and letters to his family and future generations within the Custom House, his personal "Fortress of Solitude."  Daniel Hawthorne would have found and read from them.  The series will have action, but it will be mostly about exploration and discovery.  I mentioned before I had wanted to do fictional versions of real life figures and this is it.

The Invisible World: Alpha

Same world.  New time.  New Hero.  For years people believed in their existence.  Conspiracy theorists were written off as mad.  Skeptics were in mass, yet the truth remains: Lizard People are real.  They have existed before us and now are on the rise.  Most do not even realize who they are.  Perhaps they are us!  Witness the story of a young woman discovering her lineage and a whole new world hidden from our eyes.

Concept

Ok this one I've been thinking about.  I've considered adding sci-fi to the Invisible World, but considering the series is Supernatural, I don't want to alienate the concept.   I got some inspiration from Doctor Who after seeing the Silurians..  It is also based on the popular conspiracy theory about Lizard People walking among us.  This one would be both supernatural and sci-fi, providing the question if extraterrestrials exist and how.  Also reptilian figures have always played a huge role in mythology.  In Christianity, we have the serpent, in Greek, we have the Hydra, Norse, the World Serpent, and in EVERYTHING a dragon.  The reptiles are presented as these creatures that can challenge gods and are high powers within themselves.  They are in a whole other league and I think it's worth exploring.  Also this series is meant to take place after the first Invisible World, so this would take a while.  Who knows if it'll even survive.  I'm a beginning, middle, and end type.  I can look ahead to see the vision of the end. The challenge is getting there and being satisfied.

Mythology

World of Light – Heaven.  Asgard.  Olympus.  These and other pantheons create this world.  Gods, angels, beings of light inhabit this place.

World of Darkness – Home to dark creatures, vampires, werewolves, demons, and the Nightmare Man.  It is believed that before creation, there was just complete darkness.  This is where darkness reigns and some seek to set things back to how they originally were.

Dream World – Home to the things born of imagination.  The wonderful world of fantasy.  This where people go to dream, yet there are forces that live here that seek to do others harm and some who protect them.

Blue World – World of the ocean and water based beings.  Atlantis is home to this place as well as R'lyeh.

Limbo – The Invisible World and the "center of the World Tree."  It is also referred to as the "Ground Zero of Worlds" as other worlds are created through this.  Going through Limbo is also the way to travel to other worlds.  Through this world, it is also possible to create additional worlds, which means that there are other ones not known.

Earth – Physical world and home to humans, mostly made up of skeptics and those blind to that which is hidden from them.

Red World – Home to Hell, Hades, and Lake of Fire.  Demons, beings of fire, and other dark forces proclaim this as home.

Sky World – Home to the wind Element and beings of wind, including the God, North Wind.

North World – Home to the element of Ice and ice beings.  It is also home to the North Pole, where a certain jolly fat man lives.

Concept:

Again, doing something different here.  I know there are the 9 worlds in Norse Mythology and some others do have a world tree, but it is comprised of only 3 worlds.  I went the route of the former and did my own thing with it.  Something that makes sense to me and hopefully to others.  It's not final of course as I may change it, but for now, starting with 9 worlds and see what spawns.

So as I mentioned before I want to become a writer, but due to personal issues and years not being kind my dreams have been put on hold, but I'm back on the horse and finally in a position to put ideals to paper.  I have enrolled in a script writing class for college and among my assignments was turning in a raw pitch and here it is:

What is The Invisible World?

Within our own world exists another, occupying the same space, yet a different plane.  None can see or interact with this world, save for few.  Being among such few means you were either born with it, trained, or exposed to it in one form or another.  Everyone has the potential, but few realize it.  Some can take advantage of their exposure to the Invisible World, while others cannot handle the truth being revealed unto them, thus leaving many broken.  Some believe this world is "Ground Zero" of all planes of existence.  What is the invisible world?  It is a world feared by the Puritans from times of old, feared by religious fanatics and the superstitious.  This is the home of the supernatural, home to those who have passed on from this world but have yet to move on.  It is Limbo.

Limbo is a world of power, a composite of positive and negative energy.  It is infinite.  It has no particular shape, as it is often determined by the energies that make up this world.  If one is in tune with it, he or she can shape their surroundings how they see fit, manipulating the world as well as themselves.  This power is spiritual in nature, connected to all things in a mass hive.  Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote of this power.  Transcendentalists believe in this power.  It is the Oversoul.

Look at this world through the eyes of Isabelle Jamie Ziggler, a young woman who died 6 years ago and still wanders our world.  She was merely an observer until she became witness to the coming dangers within both the Invisible World and the world of the living.  Uncovering a dark secret surrounding her death, she must now protect her friends and family as well as prevent others from falling victim to the same fate as she has.  Through her journey, the veil of the invisible will slowly pull back as truths are discovered and questions are answered.

Oversoul

Mind. Body. Spirit.  Once all three are in sync, amazing feats can be accomplished.  Mastering such a thing allows more access to the Oversoul.  Like muscles, more work enhances the mastery and strength of these abilities.  It can be used in positive and negative ways as well as in tandem with chi, chakra, and other forms of spiritual power.  It is a natural force surrounding, fueling, and tethering all life and existence.

Character classes:

Conduits – Humans able to channel and manipulate the Oversoul and other energies in multiple ways.  Abilities can notably reflect their personality and even the zodiac among other influences.

Spirits – Also called Ghosts or Wanderers.  They wander the earth in Limbo.  It is unclear if the stories of unfinished business are true or not, especially as the world is shaped by the energies and those able to manipulate it, easily creating forms of Heaven or Hell and in the process, questioning the validity of certain faiths. They themselves are able to shape their surroundings if powerful enough.  Spirits are naturally gifted with the ability to channel the Oversoul but takes practice.  They are able to interact with the physical world, their presence initially signaled by chills and electrical interference.  Interaction does take a lot of energy and can wear them out, unless provided with additional power from foreign sources such as a living person or another spirit.  Interaction with the living varies as some haunt locations and people or drawn to a person who is thinking of them.  This magnet like quality is stronger if the Spirit has a connection with the living before their death, particularly if that connection has to do with the heart.  Stronger the connection, stronger the bond.  Those they are bonded with can also boost the spirits powers.  Some are able to sync with living persons physically by inhabiting (a nicer way of saying possessing as this at least means they have permission) the body and boosting its natural abilities, granting additional powers, or even able to possess objects that belong to a person thus able to change its shape for the benefit of those wielding it, mostly weapons.  They can possess others and invade the minds of the living.  To do this usually requires the body's natural defenses being down, such as sleeping.  Some ghosts are able to enter the dreams of the living.  This occurs often, may it be to be with a loved one, to deliver a message, or simply to observe.  It is possible to go into the mind while the person is awake or not under the influence, but it is a lot harder to do so and can be potentially harmful to both spirit and living.  While Spirits are no longer among the living, they can still be harmed.  With excessive damage, they can be "shredded" or dispersed into small atomic level like energies.  When this happens, none can harm them for a time, but that same time is needed to fully reform themselves.  As for death, while it is easy to laugh off such a thing in regards to a spirit, the question still remains, can a spirit be killed?  If so, what happens to them?  Perhaps death should be feared after all.

Humans – Living inhabitants of planet Earth, the physical world.  Most of not aware of the Invisible World.  Few gain knowledge of it.  All have the potential to know of it and the powers granted thanks to the energies within all things.  They cannot see the Invisible World or its inhabitants, not unless they choose to open their minds or are forcibly exposed.  The only question that remains is how do they handle it?

The Broken – Humans exposed to the Invisible World, but could not mentally or physically handle it.  It often results in mental instabilities such as Schizophrenia.  Those who hear voices in their heads, those with disabilities such as Down Syndrome, those with invisible friends and sees things.  Are they actually suffering from these conditions or are in touch with a world they do not understand?  It is questionable in some and others who actually display supernatural abilities answer the question.

Spiritualists – Conduits that are in tune with the spiritual energies and possess the "Third Eye."  Think of them like Monks.  Not necessarily violent, but they are not completely passive either.  They provide knowledge of the world and seem at total harmony in its existence.  They master the energies within their bodies as well knowing how to harvest the energies of the Oversoul.  They know how the world works and how to navigate through it, possibly even knowing how to fully go to and from the Invisible World, a rare feat for any living person.

Mediums – Conduits able to see the Invisible World and communicate with the dead.  They can call to whoever they wish and can even assist them in various tasks.  Astral Projection is also among their abilities.

Psychics – Conduits Connected to the universe at large and granted with second sight and fortune telling.

Necromancers – Like Mediums, but they harness darker energies and can control spirits like puppets, robbing them of free will and manipulating them how they see fit.  They can also manipulate the world of Limbo and some might possibly be able to fully travel into it.  As scary a thought that is, it is also believed that they can control dead bodies and even plant Spirits into them.

Shamans – Similar to Spiritualists and Mediums, but able to communicate with animal spirits as well as nature.  They also can bond physically with spirits and even access their spirit totems, via an animal they have bonded with or manifesting their own.  This allows them to see through their eyes and adapting their senses.  It is believed that they are able to transform into animals as well.

Godkillers – Among Conduits and Broken who are killers in the name of God or whatever faith they follow.  Plenty killers claimed they have orders from God to take the lives of others or commit heinous acts.  If this is true, then the world is truly in trouble.  Thus lies the question, do these killers actually receive their orders from a higher power?  Regardless, their claim has earned them this title.

Exorcists – Similar to Mediums, Necromancers and Shamans in that their interaction is primarily with Spirits.  They can expel spirits from locations and the bodies of others.  It is believed that they are also in direct communication with deities of different faiths depending on their beliefs.  Most notable are Christian of the Catholic variety, leaving the question if they communicate with God and other inhabitants of Heaven.

Witches/Warlocks – Also referred to as Wizards, Sorcerers, and Sorceresses, they are Conduits able to harness and master the energies of the Oversoul along with mana.  They can borrow power from others, may it be fellow witches, conduits, or spirits, but most notably demons and deities, or so they claim. Thus, they do not count on their own power.   Among such deities and most prominent is Satan, harking back to the Puritan Era.  Thus, some believe they are prophets for the Dark Prince, if he exists.  They can manipulate and shape the world of Limbo and quite possible the physical world, making them among those able to manipulate matter.  They can possess the same abilities as the rest of the Conduits like Mediums, Exorcists, and even Necromancers.  Add these abilities on top of that which they practice and they are quite formidable and rightly feared.  An expert of witches happens to be famous Dark Romantic writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne as well as his ancestor, Young Goodman Brown, the first in the family to have encountered such evils years ago when he ventured into the forest during the time of the Puritans.

Hunters – Can also be called Witchers or Assassins.  They are a Warrior Class among Conduits.  They hunt Spirits and other Conduits, mastering offensive and defensive abilities.  Among them are combat styles exclusive to Conduits and spirits such as a special form of martial arts in which pressure, chakra, and chi points are targeted as well as manifesting weapons out of energy, or simply channeling energies in such a form as to simply assault a foe with deadly force.  It is rumored that Nathaniel Hawthorne and his descendants are prominent Witchers.

Alchemists – Brilliant Conduits who are able to combine spiritual power with science, accomplishing unique feats.

Whistlers – Conduits who are often struggling with their dark side.  Origin stemming from aimless travelers who whistle along the way, keeping to themselves, yet known for making a stand, be it good or bad.

Sinners – Conduits and Spirits with abilities based on the seven deadly sins. Additionally, they are masters of the Unpardonable Sin, meaning that they can kill Spirits as well as possessing abilities that does not harm the physical body, but the soul itself making them a deadly force.

Vampires – There are creatures that are believed to be real, beings that inhabit the world besides humans.  Even Spirits have a hard time believing them, but it is quite possible that they exist.  Among them are vampires, undead creatures formerly believed to be human.  If they exist, then they are rarely seen.  Witness accounts are often questioned.  Are the stories about them true?  In what form do they exist?  Answers might come sooner than you think.

Werewolves – Like Vampires, it is under question if they exists and are rarely seen if that is the case.  Sightings are unreliable.  Any photos are out of focus and chalked up to people in suits and make up.  Unlike vampires, they are alive and human, or partly so, possessing a beastly alter ego granting them strength and agility, but also following primal instincts.

The Forgiven – Conduits.  Born again.  Formerly vampires.  As Vampires are considered to be damned and spawn of Satan, then to be cured of it means that they are in God's graces again and thus, forgiven.  To be cured requires a long, seemingly torturous process that takes commitment where the end result leaves one cured of vampirism, primarily the hunger for blood and weakness against sunlight.  They now can feel their heart beating, leaving some to theorize that perhaps vampires aren't as undead as believed.

The Damned – Those who were forgiven but still chose an evil path.

Angels – Mysterious Spirits, they harvest positive energies and are primarily watchers.  They sometimes help others or pass on warnings.  Incredibly powerful and can control the element of light.  They are mostly found among parts of Limbo shaped by positive energy or "Heaven."  It is under question if they truly are angels of the Bible or the real deal.

Demons – The opposite of Angels, they are spirits that harvest negative energies and choose action over observation.  Mostly found in the parts of Limbo shaped by negative energy or "Hell."  They control the element of shadow and fire. Often associated with Witches and those willing to worship them and their dark masters.

Cryptids – Mysterious creatures whose existence are in question.  The likes of which are caught in blurry camera footage and unreliable witnesses.  They may very well be born of the Invisible World or simply born of the physical but in tune with the other.

Homunculi – Though mostly associated with artificially created Humans, it is believed that these beings were created purely out of the Invisible World or via other means, most notable among them being the Feathertop of Nathaniel Hawthorne's titular tale.  Jesus himself is believed to have been the first Homunculus as his existence is questions as with all faiths.  Their origins are not clear, but it is believed that Nephilim, beings born of Angels and Demons, are among them.  Any child born of two spirits or of a spirit or living person, albeit such an event is considered not true and just a mere legend.  Some believe it to be blasphemy as the only one born of this method is Jesus and none are his equal. Homunculi are natural conduits.

The Robbed – Spirits robbed of life.  Children who died in the womb. Children who were aborted.  Those who were never given a chance at life.  They are considered the Robbed.  Some are evil, others aren't.  Regardless of moral allegiance, they are stuck with this title.  The Robbed are not in infant form, having aged within Limbo to a set point, taking on an appearance that is likely what they would have looked like if they were alive.  They are officially children of limbo and have the potential for great power.  Some can become Beasts as their rage and anger can transform them so. Some are given a chance at life and can become Homunculi.  They are wild cards in this world.

Beasts – Mysterious creatures.  There are highly feared, but rarely seen, at least in any particular shape.  They live in the Invisible World.  Mostly seen in dark, shadowy clouds, bestial growls can be heard from them.  Sometimes, soulless eyes and sharp teeth can be seen.  Shadowy taloned hands can be seen sometimes.  Their presence is often signaled by the feeling of cold, dread, and lifelessness.  It is as if they are made completely of negative power, which they are.  They earned their nickname due to the growls and their nature as they act on instinct.  It is believed that they manifest themselves in the form of animals and are actually spirits.  No ordinary spirits though.  Spirits of those in deep despair, those swallowed in anger and sadness, and Whistlers.  Like a dark cloud, they hang over those suffering; often found tailing the bullied, suicidal, and downtrodden.  It is as if they are made up of pure power, hard to combat against with natural defenses.  They can change their shape and form.  Their appearance and abilities reflecting the negative aspects of a person.  Water for tears.  Fire and wind for rage.  Ultimately able to fully take over and lead some to commit the dark deeds found in the news and communities where such acts are unexpected. If said persons pass on, they become the spirits, but are no longer themselves but dark, twisted shadows of what they formerly were, thus confirming that Beasts are nothing more than a person's dark side.  Everyone has a dark side sure, but there are specific types of people that manifest Beasts, those depraved and are generally good, but never allowed to unleash some form of their true feelings, unable to act on emotions, or even enjoy certain things.  All this negative energy builds up and births this darkness that is just waiting to explode.  Some are so powerful that once a Beast manifests itself, it can instantly kill the living person.  Some can even take on a life of their own, separate from the person.  This is most common in Gemini.   The most notable Beast is The Raven, the same one of the titular poem by Edgar Allan Poe.  Some believe that he was a Conduit that came into contact with his dark side or perhaps confronted someone else with such a dark presence.

Blasphemers – Conduits of high power.  Sometimes also called New Gods.  Power so great, it is godly.  Created thanks to those with this power that ultimately turned their backs on faith and in turn consider themselves a deity.  Not all bold enough to consider themselves a god, but regardless, all of such power are given this title.  They can do it all, or at least have such complete and total mastery of specific abilities on a scale that very few can achieve.

Deities – As faith is called into question, so does the belief in the existence of God, and other religious deities such as the Greek and Norse Pantheons.  Some believe that they are just extremely powerful Conduits and Spirits with such power that they can literally shape the world.  Thus when worshiped or shown favor, they return such favor by providing their followers with gifts, may it be weather based, an item, or even help with tasks.  It is also in question if they actually achieved the rarest power of all… immortality or at the very least, longevity.

Characters:

Isabelle Jamie Ziggler– A Spirit and protagonist.  She is sometimes called Izzy or Southern Belle by her older brother and Brian.  She is a beautiful young Caucasian woman, Italian yet has a bit of a southern accent.  She has brunette hair and is petite.  Dying at the age of 17, six years has passed and she still roams the earth.  If ghosts have unfinished business, then she has plenty work to do.  She watches over her family, friends, and the man she loves.  She has regrets, regretting how things were left with her love and that she has left behind a lovely young daughter.  She is trained by her also dead older Brother and a Medium.  She was practicing martial arts before her passing and is so intelligent that she was a freshman in college at the time of her death.  As for her death, she was in a car accident that required a heart transplant.  While seemingly successful, it would turn out the heart was not a match, requiring her to have a second surgery.  She would soon pass on in her sleep.  It would turn out; it was not her time to go, so something is amiss.  She begins her journey, learning the ways of the Invisible World and how to channel the Oversoul in order to protect those she loves as well as stop the man who killed her, the doctor in charge of her surgery.

Brian – A Whistler, Gemini, and Broken, he is  the co-protagonist and a Conduit, but has not realized his potential yet.  He is a trouble young man, African American, and overweight, often sporting a Mohawk.  At the start of the series he is in a state of depression and in danger of taking his own life as well as unleashing his dark side.  When discovering that Izzy's death was no accident, he decides to try and unravel this mystery.  He became a slow believer in spirits, having actually spoken to mediums who told him that Izzy was with him in the same room at times and that she watches over him, wishing for him to be happy.  He wears a friendship bracelet that he designed himself, meant for Izzy, yet unable to deliver it.  It is made from 3 strings of yarn in her favorite colors: black, green, and pink.  Not long after she died, there was a rain storm so vicious that an umbrella was useless, yet he had to wait for the school bus.  By the time the bus arrives, he's able to board and is completely soaked, but miraculously the bracelet was untouched, which led him to believe that Isabelle's spirit prevented it from being wet, which ironically was true as she grabbed his wrist and held on during the storm.  This also opened his mind to the possibility of spirits being real.  As the series goes on, he will uncover the truth of the Invisible World and Oversoul, finally being able to see Isabelle again and bettering his own life, losing weight and learning to use his abilities.  He is capable of superhuman strength and endurance, often able to increase physical abilities beyond their peak in fight or flight situations.  He can unleash forceful energy attacks and practices a special form of martial arts unique to Conduits and Spirits.  He learns the ways of the Spiritualist, Shamans, and Hunters, able to bond with Isabelle in various ways, allowing her to possess him or the bracelet he wears, which in turn transforms into whatever item he wishes when this binding happens.  His spirit animals are Wolf, Bear, Fox, Dog, and Dragon (of the Chinese zodiac).  Owning a dog, he finds communication with her easier due to the Shaman abilities.  As the series progresses he has the potential to become a Blasphemer and is a candidate for being the famed Man Who Boxed With God, but that is an event yet to come, if at all.

Jamie – Isabella's daughter.  She takes so much after her mother that she looks like a mini version of Isabelle.  Izzy was a teen mom, having conceived with a former love, but giving the child up for adoption.  She kept in touch with the foster parents and checked on her daughter.  She would eventually meet Brian and the two will bond as he becomes a mentor to her in life and trusted friend.

Lance – Izzy's older brother who committed suicide years ago.  During her first surgery, he appeared to her, telling her it was not her time yet.  It turns out he is a former Beast, but he does not remember how he was saved.  He is powerful and knowledgeable in the works of the Invisible World, mentoring his sister and still being protective of her.  He, himself, have his own demons to work out, the very demons that drove him to suicide years ago.

Laura – Isabelle's identical twin sister, who wears glasses.  It is an obvious way to tell the two apart.  She becomes a Conduit later after her own life is put on the line.  She too can bond with her sister and becomes a Witch.  She looks after her niece, Jamie, and becomes a potential love interest for Brian, leaving Isabelle jealous.  She married young and is divorced, discovering a horrifying secret about her ex-husband and the role he played in the tragic life of her twin.

Ryan – an ex-boyfriend of Isabella and initially a Whistler before becoming a villain and later succumbing to his Beast. He is an African American and muscular.  Izzy was dating him at the time of her death.  It was turn out, the romance Izzy had with Brian was one over the internet, though they were not an official item, yet plans were being made for her to move to his town after college.  Things were complicated at best.  After her first near death experience, she wanted to live and began dating Ryan, which drove a rift between her and Brian, which took time to recover.  She had a personal message for Brian, stating that she still loved him and just wanted him to be patient for her.  Upon learning of this, Ryan's own world began to unravel, eventually leading to a confrontation with Brian and Isabelle.
Maxine Darkwatch – Friend to Brian and Medium.  She is also the mentor of Isabelle. A petite, redheaded, woman, she possesses a lot of sass.  She eventually mentor's Brian as well and teaches Laura witchcraft.

Tornia Fesela – Trusted friend of Brian and Spiritualist, able to Astral Projector and travel to and from the Invisible World.  She assists Brian and Izzy when she can, often using her abilities for recon purposes.  Herself an overweight woman, she eventually loses weight later in the series.  She is a Caucasian, redhead woman and later is diagnosed with cancer, for which she seeks treatment.  Brian would not leave her behind and seeks ways to help her heal, eventually becoming successful in such effort.

John Liebermann – Brian's college professor and expert on the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne and other forms of literature.  He knows of the Invisible World and provides useful knowledge.

Sasha – Friend of Brian and vampire.  She is a fan of literature and does not like violence, only feeding for survival.  She is powerful and is a former Hunter.  She was once close to Bael, but has eventually turned her back on him and a dark life.  She has not yet undergone the process of being Forgiven out of fear and regret as the process is actually known to be fatal. She herself is known to be an aspiring writer.

Timothy Rice – Middle aged man and mentor to Brian for years.  He is tall, slender, and balding with silver hair.  He has a positive outlook on life, even teaching the effects of positive and negative energy.  He is an ordinary human, but a kind and wise man.  Though he does not know of the Invisible World, his mentorship helps Brian understand and master the different energies.  The two still keep in touch.

Daniel Hawthorne – He is the co-protagonist of the Hawthorne and Brown series.   A Witcher and descendent of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Young Goodman Brown, he hunts witches and practices the special martial art exclusive to conduits and spirits.  He learns of the Invisible World thanks to the works and private journals of his ancestors.  He carries around a combat knife and detests the supernatural and magic.  He only uses his abilities as a means of defense as well as to perform an exorcism as he tends to strike all the body's points with a knife to sever ties to the Oversoul and extract a manifestation of that power.  He creates an arcane circle while they lie positioned on the ground as if on a cross.  Once the power is extracted, he slashes it with his knife, effectively shattering it.  He has the ability to kill Spirits, placing him as among Sinners for that reason.  Believed to have been a serial killer, he was hunted down by Detective Rebecca Brown.  He killed the truly evil Witches, but others, he simply assaulted and incapacitated long enough to sever their connection to the Oversoul and Invisible World.  It didn't matter if they were good or bad.  He is rough around the edges but soon develops a soft spot and even feelings for his partner.  He delivers to her a family heirloom, The Scarlet Letter that belonged to Hester Prynne and was founded by Nathaniel Hawthorne in the Custom House.  He will make occasional appearances in The Invisible World, hunting Laura and clashing with Isabelle and Brian.

Rebecca Faith Brown – Co-Protagonist of Hawthorne and Brown, she is a police detective with an ironic middle and last name.  She is actually a fan of Nathaniel Hawthorne and is revealed to be descended from Hester Prynne. Originally charged with taking down Daniel Hawthorne, the two begin working together once she's exposed to the Invisible World, but she does try to keep him in line.  She is a Psychic, able to see the auras of others and know their secrets, just like her ancestor.  She is even visited by Hester on occasion.  She carries a pistol, which, when channeling her power, can shoot spirit bullets.  She is being trained in combat by Daniel, yet is teaching him to be more compassionate.  Together, the two solve mysteries involving the Invisible World as well as the physical.  Along with Daniel, she will make occasional appearances in the Invisible World and become an ally to the protagonists of that series.

Damon – Protagonist of The Forgiven, he is among that titular group. He is African American, tall, muscular, with light pupils in his eyes.  For years, he was a vampire, preying on various victims and sire to a powerful vampire lord.  Events eventually lead to him having a guilty conscious, leading him to seek sanctuary where he underwent the grueling process to become among The Forgiven.  Now uses his abilities to battle evil, still possessing superhuman abilities, but having specific access to his past victims as he still has plenty atoning to do.  He will make occasional appearances in The Invisible World, starting in the later part of the series where more fantastic elements are unleashed.  He becomes a trusted ally to the protagonists, but does initially have a tense relationship with the heroes of Hawthorne and Brown.

Bane – A Beast and one of the main antagonists of the series.  He is among the most powerful Beasts, first encountering Isabelle when she is visiting Brian while he sleeps.  The room becomes dark.  Liquid runs down the walls, sounding like water leaking yet it appears dark, almost like blood.  It becomes cold and the liquid gathers around, hovering above Brian and delivering a wicked smile to Izzy before attacking her.  He is a cannibal, sick, twisted, sexual deviant, incredibly violent, savage, and all around evil.  His shadowy form is more liquid based than cloud like, being created from the tears of Brian.  He represents all the worst things about him.  Initially he appears and acts like a wild beast.  He is gluttonous, trying to devour other souls and gain more power.  It is the vengeful part of Brian, doing what he refuses to do and punishing those who have wronged him for the slightest of reasons.  Other times he takes on the form of a black bear, wolf, or any dark version of Brian's spirit totem. Sometimes his form is a combination of them, seeing the heads and mouths appear in random parts of his body in a twisted, grotesque appearance. Brian is initially unaware of this dark being, but soon does when he nearly dies.  He possesses Hydrokinesis, Pyrokinesis, and Aerokinesis.  He is able to channel dark energy as if a master.  When he speaks, his voice is very deep and with a growl, icy vapors emitting from his mouth every time.  He speaks methodically, slow, and deliberate. He can speak the vilest things without ever raising his voice.  He is intelligent and manipulative.  When manifesting physically for the first time, the experience nearly kills Brian as Bane kills the surgeon directly responsible for Isabelle's death and then hunted down the other surgeons.  He eventually becomes powerful enough to become his own separate being who looks like Brian, except a twisted version based on how Brian, himself looks.  When he was overweight, Bane took on a disgusting appearance of Brian, grey-brown corpse like skin with the dark liquids symbiotically moving around his body and taking the shape of boils that would randomly explode.  He still maintained his evil eyes and sharp teeth as well as clawed finger tips.  He expelled a great wind from his mouth as well as inhale like a vacuum to eat more souls and people.  He would attack on instinct, releasing a hellish shriek as he does.  When Brian loses weight and gets in shape, Bane looks the same, but without the false boils.  His hair would extend towards his body in a symbiotic manner, turning into fur as if he was a werewolf in mid transformation.  Shadows would move along his skin in the same manner.  He no longer acts like a wild animal at this time and is more cunning and devious, loving to play mind games and make life hell for everyone.  He is not completely independent of Brian as it is his dark emotions that create him, thus he still reacts accordingly, targeting Brian's friends, family, and enemies.  No matter who it is.  He is highly powerful and soon becomes completely independent of Brian.  He wants to fight God.  Once when asked what he wanted, he cynically states with his usual smile. "I want to punch God in the face."  He is one of the most unrepentant villains in the series and a poster boy for how ugly the dark side of someone is.

Tom Locke – Necromancer and drug dealer, he has appeared in both "Hawthorne and Brown" and "Invisible World," often being the antagonist in the case of a team up.  He is a Caucasian male, pale skin, dresses in gothic and emo clothing, and often paints his face and wears make up to reflect dark moods.  He uses drugs as a way to lower the body's defenses to which then he would force a spirit to possess the person and giving him more puppets.  He treats people and Spirits like toys.  In light of the recent incidents involving Bath Salts, those are among the product he pushes, hoping to create actual zombies, a feat he gets closer and closer to succeeding in.  He experiments in creating his own drugs, testing them on various people to see the end result and how it benefits him.  He is a chemist and skilled in Alchemy as well.  He carries knives with him and possesses abilities of a Sinner as well.  He is an expert in the use of knife combat.  Intelligent, but often comes off unstable, going from calm and methodical to unhinged and deranged. He is among the most lethal villains in the series.

Allen Jordan – A Sinner and Alchemist in training.  He is the villain of season one as he is the surgeon directly in charge of Isabelle's surgery.  He has taken ownership of her original heart and purposely gave her an incompatible one.  He is a man in his late thirties, average height, medium build, black hair slicked back.  With his abilities, he uses a scalpel offensively and channels power through it.  He is the right hand man of Robert Chill. A sick, unstable man who can only keep a mask of calm for so long and struggles to do so as the days go by, eventually losing his mind completely.    In the final confrontation with Isabelle, Brian's life was in danger and he saw Isabelle for the first time. She was on the ropes and not wanting to lose her twice; Bane is unleashed and viciously beats Dr. Jordan to death, soon after passing out and near death, leaving his fate unknown as a cliffhanger for season 1. He obviously got better, but Dr. Jordan didn't.  He will eventually return as a Spirit and recurring foe.

Robert Chill – Main Antagonist of The Invisible World.  He is an Alchemist, first and foremost, but is also a Sinner of incredible power. He is also a Shaman. He is a doctor, psychiatrist, therapist, and surgeon.  He is middle aged, tall, and balding, wearing horn-rimmed glasses. He was a former hunchback, but underwent surgery to remove it.  He actually keeps the hunch in a jar. A brilliant but manipulative man, he comes off as compassionate and caring, but uses this to manipulate and torture the soul of his victims.  He likes to pick at the wounds of souls, eventually creating and harnessing Beasts for his own purposes.    He has mastered the act of committing the Unpardonable Sin and among his victims has been Ryan and Brian, although both had different results.  He is also responsible for the death of Isabelle, the surgeon looking over her operation being one of his lackeys.  He maintains his own hideout where he houses jars filled with body parts and souls, performing inhumane experiments and creating more evils.  It would be discovered that he is a descendent of Roger Chillingworth.

Bael Z. Bob – Main Antagonist of Hawthorne and Brown.  He is usually referred to as Mr. Bob.  He is a slender man, often seen in a black suit, a long black coat, a black fedora on his head, wielding a cane in his hand, and huffing on a cigar.  He has red hair, which is slicked back with silver streaks on the sides and appears to be of mature age.  Pure evil, he is manipulative and highly powerful.  So powerful that he can be considered a deity.  His most powerful asset is his mind.  He is the most powerful of Sinners and has complete and total mastery over negative energy. He communicates with demons, vampires, and Witches as if he was a kingpin.  It is not known if he is Conduit or Spirit as he has displayed abilities exclusive to both.  He rarely gets his own hands dirty.  He will not often display the full extent of his power.  He is a business man, brilliant, silver tongued, and powerful.  It is also believed that he is a crime lord, having his hands in every bit of illegal activity, from drug trafficking to prostitution, feeding debauchery in various ways. He uses his resources to manipulate and control things how he sees fit.  He makes deals and returns favors, yet is to never be trusted.  It is implied that he is older than he appears.   In the journal of Young Goodman Brown, the young man mentions meeting Bael for the first time when he ventured into the forest and the man would occasionally return to taunt him.  He is among the rumored to be The Man Who Boxed With God. The Z in his middle name stands for Zecil (pronounced as Cecil, but with a Z.)  Either way, when saying his full name, however it is said; notice how it sounds a bit similar to Beelzebub?

The Beast – In the book of Revelation, there is the infamous Beast associated with the number 666.  It is believed that this is that beast.  It is the ultimate of Beasts and the original, which is why it takes the titular name.  No one knows what it looks like, but Dr. Chill tries to summon him as well as Bael.  It turns out, he is not one but many, created out of 666 Beasts to create a single hive unit.  Extremely powerful with a monstrous appearance, it often appears with the heads, mouths, and limbs of others and beasts sticking out of random parts of its body as if in a mid-transformation. It is a mindless machine, seeking only to destroy.

Hooper – A mysterious man who appears in all series.  He dresses in the robes of a priest, yet his face is covered completely in a black veil.  He wears black gloves as well, so no trace of his skin or hair can be seen.  It is not clear on his ethnicity for that reason.  He doesn't speak, but does deliver messages and warnings.  He doesn't get physical unless forced to.  It is unsure if he is conduit or spirit, yet is incredibly powerful.  He is initially referred to as the Veiled Man, but is given the name Hooper by Rebecca and Brian in reference to Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Minister's Black Veil."  It is not clear if he is indeed the real Reverence Hooper of that tale.  He is also another rumored candidate for being The Man Who Boxed With God.

The Man Who Boxed With God – Mystery character not seen or heard.  Is he a legend or prophecy?  Did this confrontation happen in the past or is it of things to come?  Did it actually happen?  In regards to the question of faith, he is a shining example.  He is apparently a man who so questioned his faith that he grew hostile feelings toward said faith and reached his limit in asking questions, instead deciding to challenge God to a fight.  He is considered the ultimate Blasphemer for even attempting a ridiculous feat.  No one knows how the battle turned out, or the fate of the man.  None are sure if it is an event of the past or future.   Details known are that he is highly powerful, enough to be a Deity and is thus considered a Blasphemer.  He is skilled in multiple abilities associated with the Oversoul and a master of their special Martial arts style.

Concept:

An action, character driven, supernatural series where the main protagonist is a ghost.  Thus the dangers to the character are more unique than mere death.  It is dark and gritty, but initially grounded in reality as there will be a separation between the physical and invisible world before the veil is lifted completely.  The more fantastic aspects will be slowly introduced instead of being outright thrown in to the point that can leave the audience confused and even alienated.

I want to have a story that the audience can invest in.  Characters that they care about.  These are characters with flaws that need to be overcome.  Villains are outright despicable and scary.  While dark, there is hope.  It is not so grim dark as there are moments of lightheartedness, laughter, and heart string pulling.

There is love, there is tragedy, there is redemption, and there are things coming in which the characters deserve.  Happy endings won't be handed, but earned and fought for.

There are religious themes, the likes of which will be considered controversial among the religious type.  It involves the questions of faith, a vital part of a character's own journey.

There is mature content as well. Violence, dialogue, sexual content, in which in regards to that, I am not going for a style where sex is so abundant that it might as well be a Skinemax series.  It will be few and natural.  They may be the occasional perv or sexual deviant to be dealt with.

As for action, consider the influence being from anime and recent movies like The Dark Knight Rises.  Think the fight scene between Batman and the villain Bane.  Also think of how Ozymondias fights in the Watchmen movie.  Combat and hits will be similar to that in the real world, but there will be some wire fu work, mostly in regards to combat in the Invisible World, to further emphasis the differences between the worlds before they become more integrated as the series goes on.  Also as a nod to anime there will be those familiar power up moments, but only when certain characters show off some raw, destructive power in a fit of rage or circumstances call for it.  When this happens, the surrounding areas will shake.  Electric interference will happen (think like the Quickening from the first and best Highlander movie). Strong winds will kick up and gravity will become unstable.

In regards to villains, there won't always be villains of the weeks.  Villains will be recurring and not every episode will be all about taking down a bad guy.

I do include fictionalized versions of real life people, from those I knew personally or figures of the past, those being Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allan Poe. For example: In the series, Young Goodman Brown is not a character in the titular tale by Hawthorne, but actually existed and is his ancestor.

There is a special martial arts style I wish to incorporate.  It is a fictional style, but I have yet to come up with a proper name for it.  I am considering Channeling Gates as the name.  It is a style to where chakra, pressure points, and chi points are struck. It is a hybrid of Jeet Kune Do, Karate, Tai Chi, Yoga, Kajukenbo, 52 Hand Blocks, CQC, Moo Gi Gong, Hapkido, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, Winjitsu, Aikido, and Mushin.  Each of these styles serve a purpose regarding mind, body, and spirit, combining mental, energy flowing, offensive, and defensive martial arts.   So yes there are Eastern influences as well.

Mythology will play a part as well, from Greek to Norse.

There will be references and in jokes as well.  Such as if a character uses energy to mimic and successfully perform a Hadouken, it will be followed up with a Street Fighter joke and fan debate as another character in the scene will perform a Kamehameha in order to debate the differences between moves.

There is a lot going for this so that is why it is a series where stories unfold over episodes.  Things will be gradually introduced and there will be character development all coming full circle in an ending that will be satisfying for the audience and not just me.  An ending that is well earned.

As for the Invisible World itself, again, the purpose is creating a level of reality as initially there will be a separation between the physical world and this one.  The differences will be made clear but as the series progresses, there will be more incidents where the Invisible World is not quite so invisible as characters grow in power and able to pull off more fantastic feats in the physical world.

Inspiration:

There are various sources in which I draw inspiration from this series.  First my real life and tragedies I have been through as well as directions my life has been or going.  Isabelle is based on a young woman named Haylee~Jade Isabella Zigliero.  She also happens to have a twin sister.  We were very much in love, and yes, it was an internet romance but unfortunately she has moved on from this earthly plane.  Also if you are curious, in light of recent events in the news as well as the rise of popular show, Catfish, yes she is real.  There are other characters based on people I know.  They may just recognize themselves or if they are curious, they can always ask me. I will tell you straight out, Brian and Bane are based on me.

The ideal of the Invisible World is not new, but what matters is how it is used.   I grabbed the concept from "Wonders of the Invisible World" by Cotton Mather.  In turn, I have noticed the concept being used more in TV. and video games these days.  While the Invisible World in general is the supernatural, lately it has been adapted as if it is an actual invisible world in shows like Supernatural and Bleach and video games like Bayonetta and the new Devil May Cry.  In these stories, the world of the supernatural is cut off from the eyes of humans.  Demons and angels taking human hosts as if they are clothes.  Monsters that show up, but no one can physically see it save for the hero and other hunter types.  The ability to manifest weapons and abilities of a person's own making to tackle these invisible dangers.  Speaking of TV shows and video games, yes I do draw inspiration from the previously mentioned as well as the anime Shaman King and the upcoming video game, Beyond: Two Souls.  In both, characters work alongside ghosts for offensive and defensive purposes.

Other works I grab inspiration from is the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.  Also the comic books "Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt" by Pete Morisi and "Strange Talent of Luther Strode" by Justin Jordan.  Nathaniel Hawthorne works  "Young Goodman Brown," "The Minister's Black Veil," "The Grey Champion," "Feathertop," and "The Scarlet Letter" and Edgar Allan Poe's "Tell Tale Heart," "The Black Cat," and "The Raven" are inspirations as well.

Interesting note: The Man Who Boxed With God.  I happen to be a wrestling fan and weeks ago during an episode of WWE's Monday Night Raw, The Rock and CM Punk had a confrontation in the ring to where Punk says "Your arms are just too short to box with God!"  I really love this quote.  I found out this quote is also similar in name to a Christian stage play and titular song.  In the past I have had ideals of stories in which a character does have a…physical confrontation with god.  Controversial, I know.  This is due to my own experiences and struggles I've had that caused me to question my faith.

I have recently took an interest in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter saga, which is a series of novels with separate arcs such as The Dark-Hunters, Were-Hunters, and Dream-Hunters series of books.  Each focuses on a different protagonist, but all are under the same continuity and are connected.  I wish to do something similar in a cross media style with "The Forgiven" and "Hawthorne and Brown" being novel series and "The Invisible World" being a TV and comic book series.
